This is a very funny and well-done movie but a lot of viewers (judging from reviews I've seen elsewhere) never figure it out and so don't appreciate it. The keys to enjoying it: (1) a sense of humor (2)some prior experience with Bollywood films and (3) understanding that the police inspector is smoking something and having pipe dreams! This explains the over the top (even for Bollywood) nature of many of the scenes, which are not supposed to be taken as "real". Beyond the pipe dreams, the young lovers (the "real" characters) take over the movie in the second half, and this is just as funny as the first half - with some topnotch musical numbers, wonderful choreography and Shah Rukh Khan moments, and masterful Anupam Kher comic bits you aren't likely to see him get to do anywhere else. In short this is not your typical Bollywood movie but one that plays on those expectations. Either you'll love this one or you'll end up scratching your head and hating it. I loved it.

This movie is a great one to watch with the girls or when u really want to laugh. The eye candy John Abraham (Sam) and Akshay Kumar (Mac) make a lovely hilarious duet that will steal your heart. Sam and Mac are friends who work in this hip magazine "Garam Masala" as photographers, they always get in trouble because of their uncontrollable madness for beautiful women. The fun starts when Mac who is engaged to sweet Anjali(Rimi Sen), is having affairs with 3 gorgeous air-hostesses Sweety (Neetu Chandra), Puja (Nargis) and Deepti (Daisy Bopanna). Dating the girls is Mac's dream come true but it will start all kinds of trouble for him when they all stay in his apartment at the same time. Mac will try his best to manage those affairs and Sam will try to help him but also try to snatch the girls behind his friend's back. A lot of funny scenes and amazing hot songs. I've always thought that John was a hot hunk but now I think he's "Garam Masala".
This DVD also includes some very nice bonus material, an interview with the cast ( is that a love bite on john's right arm?!!), the movie premier and a hilarious interview with John and Akshay where you can really see how great, funny, hot and sexy John is.

The Compliment:

This movie is beautiful.
There area lots of great scenes of New York.
The story is compelling.
And, the classic Bollywood dance scenes are worked into the storyline cleanly in logical places.

The Complaint:

Be forewarned, I ordered this 2-disk special edition from Amazon (not the marketplace) and I was sent the single-disc, double-layer version. Unfortunately, I had torn off the plastic wrap before I realized there was only 1 disc inside, so returns seem to be out of the question. I understand that the covers of the single-disc and double-disc versions are almost the same. This was probably a picking error. So when you buy this, check it very carefully before opening it.

This is a superb film that gives the viewer a bird's-eye view into the plight of India's urban street children. It is done through the experience of young Krishna, an illiterate, country bumpkin of a boy, who is abandoned by his mother at a circus and told not to come home until he has five hundred rupees for having broken something that belonged to his brother. While Krishna is on an errand, the circus packs up and leaves town, and he is left alone to fend for himself.

Krishna uses his last few rupees to travel to a city, which by luck of the draw turns out to be Bombay. Thrust into the life of the street children of Bombay, living among the pimps, hustlers, drug addicts, prostitutes, and throw away children that proliferate in India's urban settlements, a modern day jungle, Krishna struggles to survive. His resourcefulness holds him in good stead. He quickly develops some street smarts and forms attachments. He struggles to earn and save money, so that he can return home to his mother and the family whom he misses, only to be duped in the end by one in whom he had trusted. His story breaks one's heart, as he learns some hard lessons in life.

This is a gritty look into the underbelly and plight of Bombay's poor street children, who call the gutters of its filthy urban streets home. It is filled with the sights and sounds of this urban nightmare. An Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, this highly acclaimed film allows the viewer a peek at another culture, only to find that basic human needs and desires are universal.

When Bollywood meets Hollywood

There's bound to be some sparks

I give almost full marks

The story line is much the same

Except a little shorter

The noisy Bakshi family

Is short a Bennet daughter

Henderson's no Colin Firth

He's just a little bland

They could have found a better bloke

To take Lalita's hand

The Bingley siblings caught my eye

I've seen them both before

He was her Kama Sutra guy

And now he's "Lost" no more

The ending's changed up quite a bit

This version's changed the terms

Singing, dancing, Indian style

And riding pachyderms

A lively, funny musical

Though not for everyone

It's almost Pride and Prejudice

But a hundred times more fun

While you're listening to the songs of the soundtrack you can easily recall the scenes of the movie, bollywood style music is a good and new experience to enjoy this cd.

I bought this Blu-Ray collection after I bought the "Best of Shah Rukh Khan" music video collection.

When I bought this collection, I was really disappointed that they repeated so many song videos that were already in the Shah Rukh Khan collection. The movies that were represented in the Shah Rukh Khan collection had many other song videos that did not include Shah Rukh Khan that I would think would be excellent choices to put in this "Top 50 Reloaded" collection.

Yash Raj could have released two fine Blu-Ray video collections without repeating any videos between the two and would have made having both of them as a better value.

Well, Yash Raj still has many song videos to make a few more Bollywood song video collections. I hope that that is the plan in the near future.

I wonder why other Bollywood movie entities aren't releasing any Blu-Ray films or song video collections yet? They are such an improvement over the less-than-stellar DVD releases over the years.

This movie was great. Kuch Naa Kaho (Say No More) was my second bollywood movie (if you count Bride & Prejudice as full-on bollywood) and I enjoyed it so much I've actually sat through it twice already (to inform the reader, i am a manly man who lives and breathes sports; watching a 2 and half hour flick with sub-titles is a big deal for me, as well as a step up in my social evolution, 'cording to my girl). I'm not saying that I've become a full-on bollywood fan, just an ardent Aishwarya Rai slave.

Anyway, the basic plot: Raj lives in America and is tricked into going to India to go to his sister's wedding, suspecting all the while that his matchmaking uncle'll try to marry him off. He meets Namrata (Aishwarya Rai) by a cute coincidence; later, Namrata is talked into guiding/babysitting the reluctant Raj as he dates the five women set up by his uncle; of course, it turns out the perfect chica for him is Namrata; but then there's a little twist...

The first two hours mostly pass in comedic fashion, now and then interrupted by song & dance numbers, then it segues into soap opera drama in the final 30-40 minutes. By the way, I just realized I haven't even mentioned the lead actor's name. It is Abhishek Bachchan and, apparently, he is the son of a famous actor (the director, Rohan Sippy, is also the son of a famous director). Abhishek as Raj does a pretty good job. I found myself liking the fella, even though he was romancing the girl of my dreams (I'm sure I have a shot; after all, I am a manly man). Abhishek's sense of humor shines through (check out the "making of" on the bonus dvd to see how laid back and cheerful this cat is) but he also holds up well in the dramatic scenes. Some friends more refined than me and who, therefore, have seen multitudes of foreign films have commented that Kuch Naa Kaho is actually "a refreshing confection added to the bollywood genre, flavored with up-to-date themes and values and peppered with more modern styles of music." Me, I just get hungry with that kind of talk. The thing about a lengthy movie like this is that, if you're enjoying it, you fall deeper into the story so that by the end, you're truly wrapped up into the tale and you have a deeper investment in the characters and what befalls them. Now let's go into the movie's not so secret weapon. For that, I'm gonna start a new paragraph.

Aishwarya Rai makes this movie work. I'm a layman when it comes to acting; basically, I know what I like. But, to me, Rai has that light, deft touch that is desperately needed with romantic comedies such as this. She is luminously beautiful, yet refreshingly down-to-earth. She makes the musical segments a sheer pleasure to watch. I've replayed the songs so often I could probably describe every dance step and hum every note right now...but I won't. And Omigosh her eyes! ...look, I've obviously degenerated into this rambling mode now so do yourself a favor, dear reader, and order this movie. This woman gets 10,000 e-mails daily worldwide. You're gonna make it 10,001. Cheers.
